For IT / Planning & operations

Technology you can understand and plan for.

SchoolBell is a dedicated control panel for scheduled audio signals and routine announcements. This overview separates panel requirements, audio distribution and the links needed when several buildings work together.

01 / PANEL

Dedicated to the task.

An Android-based touch panel for fixed installation. The planned 10.1-inch panel can use PoE+ or an external power supply, depending on the selected hardware version.

02 / LOCAL AUDIO PATH

An analogue connection.

The analogue output connects through appropriate signal adaptation to an amplifier or external audio converter.

03 / DANTE

A separate audio box.

A dedicated audio box or gateway generates the Dante traffic. The panel’s network port is not automatically a Dante audio transmitter.

04 / SCHOOLBELL SYNC

Playback on site.

A separate local playback unit that can receive and store relevant calendars, audio files and settings.

Three network scenarios

Local analogue installation

A direct connection to a compatible amplifier. PoE may power the panel where the infrastructure supports it. Dante is not required.

Dante distribution

A designed LAN with suitable switches, PoE capacity, clock synchronisation and traffic management. For Swedish installations, AVAB agrees the requirements with the IT team.

Multiple SchoolBell units

A data link transfers schedules, audio files and settings. Each unit plays locally. Without the link, automatic synchronisation and remote announcements are unavailable.

Before installation

Questions to discuss with your IT team.

An overview for project planning. Final technical data is provided for the chosen configuration.
AreaInformation
PowerPoE+ or a power supply, depending on the final panel configuration; power budgets are checked before installation
Physical connectionsEthernet for network functions; a separate analogue audio signal for a direct amplifier connection
IP configurationDHCP or static addressing is documented for the selected unit
TimeScheduled playback needs accurate time; local or NTP-based time handling is documented at commissioning
DanteA dedicated transmitter/gateway, receivers and a properly planned network environment are required
SegmentationVLANs, multicast/IGMP, PTP, QoS and access requirements are assessed for Dante or multi-building synchronisation
Offline operationLocal schedules and audio files are intended for local use; updates between units need a link
PermissionsConfiguration, user roles and administrative access are agreed with the customer
UpdatesApp and firmware management are defined in the agreed operations and support model
PortsAn exact port and protocol list is supplied for the final selected and configured system
Emergency system boundaryNot a certified evacuation or lockdown alarm system

Start with your requirements.

Does your school have specific requirements for VLANs, authentication, switches or documentation? For Swedish projects, AVAB reviews these before installation. Exact protocols, ports, update procedures and restart behaviour are documented for the selected system.
